Massage therapy is a non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to manage pain, rehabilitate injuries, reduce stress, increase relaxation, address anxiety and depression, and promote general wellness. Massage therapy encompasses many different techniques and modalities that can be tailored to each individual patient. Sessions can be focused on one or two areas of the body or can cover the entire body. Therapists who are licensed by the State of Maryland offer a variety of massage modalities, including deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, myofascial release, hot stone or hot crystal massage, aromatherapy, prenatal massage, and integrative stretching.

The benefits of massage therapy are numerous. Massage therapy can help reduce muscle tension and pain while improving circulation and flexibility. It can also help reduce stress levels and improve overall mental health by promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety. Massage therapy has also been shown to improve immune system function by increasing white blood cell count and helping to reduce inflammation in the body. Additionally, massage therapy can help improve sleep quality by reducing insomnia symptoms such as difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.

Swedish / Relaxing Massage

Swedish massage is one of the most popular and beneficial massage techniques used to promote relaxation. It has many health benefits for both the body and mind, such as reducing muscle tension, encouraging blood flow, and stimulating the lymphatic system. Furthermore, Swedish massage techniques can be tailored to meet various needs and preferences, such as relieving muscle pain, and stress. It can also help improve circulation and range of motion, as well as anxiety. By using long, smooth strokes and circular motions, Swedish massage will help relax the body and mind. The therapist may also use kneading, tapping, and friction to promote muscle tension relief. Swedish massage can be beneficial for those who have tight muscles from daily activities such as sitting at the computer or exercising.

Deep Tissue / Deep Pressure

Unlike Swedish massage, which is made up of long strokes, deep tissue massage uses many of the same strokes but with far more pressure. This helps to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue found in the body. Ultimately, this type of massage is beneficial for releasing chronic muscle tension and helping with muscle injuries. By focusing on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, deep tissue massage allows the body to release toxins, relax the muscles, and increase blood flow, which can help reduce inflammation. It can also help to promote healing by releasing contracted areas of muscle and tissue and helping to restore normal movement. Deep tissue massage may provide relief from chronic pain, tension, and inflammation. Deep tissue massage also helps to improve circulation by increasing the blood flow to targeted muscles, allowing them to receive more oxygen and nutrients. Due to the time needed to perform a deep tissue massage, this is normally focused on 1-2 areas of the body. Communication is key when it comes to deep tissue massage; it is important to discuss your expectations with the massage therapist before the session begins. We encourage you to communicate openly with the massage therapist about any level of pressure and discomfort that is felt throughout the massage, as this may change for different areas. The massage therapist will take special care to ensure that the patient is comfortable and that the pressure applied is appropriate according to the patient's needs.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is designed to reduce tension, improve circulation, encourage the removal of waste by-products, and help to relax the body. The massage therapist utilizes techniques such as kneading, stroking, and compression to achieve these goals. Additionally, sports massage helps to prevent injuries and improve performance for athletes and individuals who participate in physical activities. Sports massage can also help to reduce the risk of injury by improving flexibility, increasing range of motion, and strengthening muscles. It can also help to reduce muscle soreness after exercise or activity. Sports massage is recommended for athletes before and after an event or competition as well as for those who are looking for relief from chronic pain or discomfort.

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage is a type of massage therapy that is specifically designed for pregnant people. It is a gentle, non-invasive form of massage that can help alleviate many of the discomforts associated with pregnancy, such as back pain, muscle tension, headaches, and fatigue. Prenatal massage can also help reduce stress and anxiety levels, improve sleep quality, and promote relaxation. The benefits of prenatal massage are numerous. It can help reduce stress hormones in the body, which can lead to improved mood and reduced anxiety. It can also help relieve muscle tension and pain in the back, neck, and shoulders. Additionally, it can improve circulation in the body, which can help reduce swelling in the legs and feet. When receiving a prenatal massage, it is important to make sure that you are comfortable with the therapist. You should be able to communicate your needs and expectations clearly with them. It is also important to make sure that they are knowledgeable about prenatal massage techniques and safety precautions. When receiving a prenatal massage, you may be asked to lie on your side or back on a special table designed for pregnant people. The therapist will use their hands to apply pressure to specific areas of your body in order to release tension and increase circulation. They may also use oils or lotions to help reduce friction during the massage. It is important to remember that prenatal massage should not be used as a substitute for medical care, or advice from your doctor, or midwife. If you have any concerns about your health or the health of your baby, you should always consult with your healthcare provider before beginning any type of massage therapy.

Hot Stone / Hot Crystal Massage

Hot stone massage is a type of massage therapy that involves the use of smooth, flat, heated stones placed on specific parts of the body. The stones are usually made of basalt, a type of volcanic rock that retains heat, or a variety of natural crystals. These stones/crystals are heated to between 130 and 145 degrees before being placed along the spine, stomach, and chest. During the massage, your therapist will hold the heated stones as they massage your body, warming up the muscle and tissue before providing a deep tissue massage. The benefits of hot stone massage include increased relaxation, improved circulation, reduced stress and anxiety levels, and improved joint mobility. It can also help to reduce pain and inflammation in the body. Hot stone massage can also be used to treat chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia and arthritis. While hot stone massage is generally safe and effective, there are some risks associated with it. People with certain medical conditions such as diabetes or heart disease should consult with their doctor before receiving a hot stone massage.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialized technique designed to assist proper lymphatic circulation. This gentle treatment helps treat a variety of conditions and symptoms, including edema, chronic pain, muscle tension, and stress-related ailments. During an MLD session, the therapist uses their hands to apply specific pressure and techniques to the affected area. This helps to stimulate the lymphatic vessels and encourages the proper flow of lymphatic fluid throughout the body.

Questions About Massage? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do I have to be completely undressed for my massage?

You do not have to be completely undressed for your massage. Most massage therapists will ask you to undress to your comfort level, which may be anything from fully clothed to completely nude. You should always feel comfortable and respected during your massage, so make sure to communicate with your massage therapist about what you are comfortable with. Your massage therapist will leave the room so you can undress to your comfort level and you will then lie on the massage table under a top sheet and blanket. Regardless if you choose to maintain some clothing or not, your massage therapist will always ensure that you are always properly draped and covered.

What if I am late arriving to my appointment?

We understand that your time is valuable, and we want to make sure that you get the most out of your appointment. We kindly ask that you arrive on time for your appointment so that we can provide you with the full services you have booked. If you arrive late, we may not be able to provide the full services due to other appointments that have been scheduled after yours. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but please understand that full payment for the services you have booked will still be expected. Thank you for understanding.

How much do you tip for a massage?

We understand that some clients may be unsure of how much they should tip their massage therapist. As a general guideline, we recommend tipping your massage therapist as you would a waiter in a restaurant. Our therapists love what they do, and your tip may reflect your appreciation for their service. We suggest that tipping percentages should be based on the full price of a regular massage, rather than the discounted price. For most people, this ranges from 15-25% depending on their level of satisfaction with their treatment.ected.

What should I do if I need to cancel my appointment?

If you need to reschedule your appointment, you can log into your account and make changes anytime. For late-notice cancellations under 48 hours, please call us directly as soon as possible. Cancellations without 48-hour notice will result in a fee of 50% of the full service scheduled, as that time has been set aside specifically for you.

Do you take insurance? What if I have a flexible spending account (FSA)?

Although we do not accept insurance for massage therapy at this time, many flexible spending accounts (FSA) and health savings accounts (HSA) can be used for your treatments. We can provide you will all the documentation needed if requested by your FSA/HSA.

How often should I get a massage?

The frequency of massages will depend on individual needs and preferences. Generally, it is recommended to receive a massage at least once a month to reap the most benefits. However, if you are dealing with chronic pain or have a specific health condition, more frequent massages may be beneficial. With our Wellness Program, you can enjoy the benefits of regular massages as well as other perks and discounts. Regular massages can be an excellent way to treat yourself and improve your overall health and well-being.

What if I have body acne, skin conditions, or forgot to shave?

It is important to bring up any questions or concerns you may have prior to the start of your massage. Your massage therapist is here to help you get the most from your massage, and they want to make sure that your experience is as comfortable and relaxing as possible. If you have any skin conditions or body acne, let your massage therapist know so they can use the proper techniques and techniques to ensure your comfort. If you forgot to shave and are feeling embarrassed, don’t worry - your massage therapist will use a light touch and the right techniques to ensure that you feel comfortable during your massage.

What if I fall asleep and snore or drool?

If you do happen to fall asleep during your massage, don’t be embarrassed. Your massage therapist is experienced and understands that it is a sign that you are completely relaxed. They may also continue the massage with a lighter touch and the right techniques to ensure that you have an enjoyable and comfortable experience.

Do you talk during a massage?

It is important to communicate with your massage therapist and let them know if anything is uncomfortable or if you would like more or less pressure. Your massage therapist will be able to adjust the pressure to ensure you are comfortable and relaxed. Additionally, if at any time during the massage, you need to pause or take a break, let your therapist know and they will gladly accommodate you.

Will the massage hurt?

Massages can be both pleasurable and painful depending on the type of massage and the individual's tolerance for pain. Some types of massages, such as deep tissue massage, are designed to be more intense and can cause some discomfort. However, most massages are designed to be relaxing and should not cause any pain. Remember, healing does not have to be painful; you do not have to have the "no pain, no gain" mentality to feel better. It is important to communicate with your massage therapist about your comfort level during the massage.
